Delight. This word has been coming up in my mind and out of mouth frequently since I attended the Shambhala Guide Training earlier this month. Sakyong Mipham recently tweaked the instructions for basic mindfulness meditation, which he defines as “consciously placing the mind.” He now suggests that while meditating, whenever you realize you’ve gotten caught up in a train of thought, let go of that and gently return your attention to the sensation of your breath. And then take delight in that experience.
You can do it right now. Feel how the breath rolls in and out of your body. No need to visualize it or think about it. Try to connect to this very sensual experience. Where is the breath in your body right now? How wonderful that the breath continues to roll in and out, like the tides, without any effort on our part. Can you take delight in each nourishing breath and find a sense of ease as you let each exhale flow out and mix with space?
I’ve been practicing this way and guess what? It really is true that whatever imprints we create in practice show up off the cushion, too. Getting familiar with Delight has started to uplift my entire attitude and fill me with a nourishing, beautiful sense of appreciation and gratitude for my life.
It’s even helped me stay in a good mood despite the fact that my website has been totally hacked and destroyed. So, if you are trying to keep in touch, please be patient for a few more weeks while we reinvent the site, which will include my new blog and eventually lots of goodies to download, etc. For now, if you see any of the workshops or retreats listed below that don’t have a website contact, that means all the registrations go through me. Just email me at email@example.com for more info. Also, check in with me on FB at cyndi.lee.yoga or twitter @CyndiLeeyoga.
In the meantime, I’m, well, delighted to share my upcoming schedule with you and hope it will be a good addition to your practice this spring and summer.
PS. I’m so thrilled about the super positive response my book has been getting! Great reviews and lots of people emailing me about how the book has touched them. May I Be Happy: A Memoir of Love, Yoga and Changing My Mind is available at www.amazon.com and bookstores everywhere! See below for upcoming book signings and special women’s retreats.
