Leaving the Barrier Islands Center, I saw this giant bell. Isn’t it beautiful? I imagined how loud it’s ring must be and I just wasn’t up for hearing that. So I sat next to it and did San Mukhi Mudra. This mudra is part of the practice of Pratyahara, withdrawal of the senses. It is a way to reduce the roller coaster effect of cravings that can arise from sights, smells, sounds, taste and touch. To do San Mukhi Mudra, you place your thumbs on your ear tabs, first two fingers on your eyelids, ring finger on your nostrils and baby finger on your top lip. Lightly close, or almost close, all these places. Sit quietly and breath slowly and evenly. I really like this photo because it is so weird. It looks like a Stephen King movie to me. What is she doing on the grass by that big bell and all those old white buildings?
