IN PERSON: Mindfulness and Mahayana 4-Day Mini-Retreat

  • Tibet House US 22 West 15th Street New York, NY, 10011 United States (map)

Meditating together in a group creates its own special kind of magic! During this 4-day in-person mini-retreat, we will begin with mindfulness meditation practice (shamatha/vipassana) as the ground for growing our genuine sense of compassion (karuna) for self and others. The benefits of consistent meditation practice are stability, clarity, and strength of mind.

On the first night, you will receive clear and grounded mindfulness meditation instruction, as well as a lesson on the nuts and bolts of how meditation relates to the rest of your life. Every day the instruction will deepen and the length of the sitting periods will grow. By the end of five days we will sit together for 30 minutes… or more! Contemplative meditation, journaling, group discussion, and dharma talks will provide insight for strengthening your natural capacity for caring, generosity, wakefulness and inclusivity. Each session will include time for Q&A.

As the retreat unfolds we will expand our application of meditation by infusing it with the recognition of interdependence, or what Thich Nhat Hanh called “inter-being.” You will be invited to take 100% interest in your own experience, emotions, and wisdom as the starting point for this work; where else can we start, but with ourselves?

This mini-retreat will be a great opportunity for those who have not had formal meditation instruction or would like to refresh their practice. We hope you will join us!

Yoga teachers can earn 30 CEUs toward Yoga Alliance Continuing Ed requirement by completing this mini-retreat in full.
